HIGH COUNTRY

INTERNATIONAL

COMBINED DRIVING EVENT

CDE Pair

SEPTEMBER 1- 3, 2007

Considered to be the fastest growing equestrian sport in North America, the Combined Driving Event or C.D.E. will again be presented Labour Day weekend 2007 at our venue at the Calgary Polo Club, just 15 minutes south of Calgary. This wonderful site has enabled us to construct a marathon course that will allow spectators full vision of all the obstacles.

Prince Philip became an enthusiastic driver and supporter of combined driving. His efforts of initiating an internationalset of rules based on equine three-day event competition has escalated the popularity of combined driving competitions to a world class scale. The first international driving rules were published in 1970 and the first World Driving Championships were held in 1972 at Munster, Germany.

Three types of competitions are provided for in a Combined Driving Event: Presentation and Dressage, Marathon, and Cones. Safety is checked first in Presentation and Dressage, then the competitor is graded on the appearanceof the horse and carriage and finally on the proper display of required movements. In the Marathon (endurancephase including obstacles) and in the Cones, penalty points are accumulated in relation to the speed and accuracy of completing the courses. The winner is the "whip" or driver with the least number of penalty points.

The Training & Preliminary Divisions will include a class of
"Very Small Equines" - not to exceed 100 cm.
